However, if you enjoy in-depth character portrayal and unreliable narrators, with - surprisingly - some laugh-out-loud moments, this may well be the book for you. I loved the fact that Eliza Clark was the narrator: who could convey better the emotions and inner confusion of her protagonist, Irina? For all my enthusiasm, this is probably not a book for everyone there is swearing throughout and the subject matter involves topics such as extreme sex, rape, violence, abuse, eating disorders and disintegrating mental health. I noticed this in the fiction category of the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards, otherwise I might not have discovered this novel, but now urge all of you with a dark streak not to risk missing out on a treat! I can't comment on it as a read, but as a listen it is exceptional.
